Our NEW Process – Sublimation
Although technology today is amazing,¬†it has caused us¬†all to love or need at least¬†one of our devices in one way or another.¬† As amazing as it is, I can’t help¬†but¬†feel it is also somehow very unfortunate.¬† I know, your thinking, “Unfortunate? Really?” or “…but, I love my tablet!” or “I NEED my phone.”¬† Don’t get me wrong, I am guilty of the “device vice” myself.¬† I depend on my phone everyday for calls, texts, emails, and in desperate times even the calculator¬†and flashlight apps.¬†¬†I’ll admit it, I love my phone.¬† However,¬†one constant complaint I have¬†is that it ALWAYS seems to be full.
My phone is always full of funny candid shots of my family, friends, and dogs.¬† It is full of vacation photos from last summer when we took¬†unforgettable¬†road trips through the mountains.¬† Full of our adventures exploring historic St. Augustine, Florida and downtown Charleston, South Carolina.¬† Full of projects I had recently¬†completed and landscape shots¬†of nature I just had to capture.¬†¬†So, it¬†is fair to say that the problem is that there are simply too many good memories saved inside my phone.¬† Every so often, all of the photos are transferred either to cloud storage or external hard drive.¬† This clears up a ton of memory in my phone, my photos are safely backed up somewhere else, and I’m ready to collect shots of new memories.¬† The unfortunate part of all of this is the actual photos themselves don’t¬†ever live more than a digital life.¬† The photo¬†is taken, trapped¬†in my phone for a while, and then forgotten or trapped forever inside a drive somewhere.
The Life of a Photograph
Photographs don’t have the same feel inside a phone or cloud as they do in your hands.¬† Whether it’s a photo¬†printed at a local kiosk and hung on your refrigerator¬†or a framed photo of your family hanging in your home, that photo gets a physical life when it comes out of the device.¬† It gets to be admired or remembered everyday as we¬†go on about our daily routine.¬† That photo becomes part of our surroundings, a¬†part of our home, and sometimes even a part of our life.¬† When the same photo is stored in a cloud somewhere, how often do¬†we actually see it?¬† Do you visit your backed up photos on a regular basis to remember the good times?¬† I know I don’t.
Once about every six months I clean my photos out of my phone and back them up.¬† I’m embarrassed to admit that once they’re backed up, I don’t usually give them too much more thought.¬† That is, until it’s time to back up the new photos again.¬† Because I typically store all of my photos in the same place,¬† when I add new ones, the older photos pop up first.¬† That’s usually how often I look back and remember some of the best moments of my life.¬†¬†Somehow, for me¬†anyhow, that seems¬†so sad.¬† Just¬†the¬†glimpse of a special moment can lift¬†spirits and boost positive energy.¬† It can bring you back to a¬†nostalgic place or time.¬† The best moments in life should be remembered way more often than once every six months.¬† They should be given physical life so that they can be remembered everyday!
How It Works
Our new sublimation process and sublimated photo products line already has everyone talking, and we’re even more excited!¬† Now, we can offer more than just your 2-tone laser engraved image.¬† We can use COLOR, and we can use YOUR color photos as well.¬† The possibilities for creating custom products are now endless and the amount of new design options is overwhelming.¬† This new process allows us to bring physical life to these special moments and treasured photos.¬† We can use photo prints to create a whole new list of products such as aluminum, slate, and glass photo tiles, mouse pads, coffee cups, jewelry charms, plaques, and much more.
Sublimation is not simply gluing a printed photo onto a blank product.¬† Color photos are printed on a special paper and then transferred into the blank material with calculated heat and pressure. This allows the¬†inks to¬†transform¬†from a solid to a gas without ever¬†becoming a liquid in between phases. This rapid change of state allows the inks to be permanently embedded into the surface of the material leaving a lasting impression that won’t crack, peel, or fade.¬†Once the process is complete, the paper print is discarded and the inks from the¬†image¬†are permanently interfused with the blank product in vibrant color.
Bring YOUR Photos to Life
Of course, the higher the resolution of the photo, the better the results.¬† However, we can use photos from digital cameras, cell phones, and most other mobile devices.¬† We understand that¬†all¬†of our¬†customers may not be extremely¬†computer savvy or graphic designers.¬† If that’s you, don’t worry!¬† We are experienced graphic designers and are more than happy to help.¬† Just send us an email or give us a call today!
